Slow-moving and quirky with some low-key humor and interesting characters.

| Description: | Three seasons (19 episodes) and an hour-long special set five years later. Two British friends, Andy (Mackenzie Crook) and Lance (Toby Jones), are detectorists — hobbyists who find things with metal detectors. They are members of a small local club. They dream of the big find, something significant to history. In the three seasons, Lance finds a Saxon jewel, but they miss a much larger find in the same field. In the special, they find pieces of a reliquary which, they are told, may have held the holy grail, thought to have been a simple clay cup. The friends remember a cup they found not far from the reliquary, but can't remember what happened to it. The story also covers the two men's personal lives, including Andy's marriage to Becky (Rachel Sterling, who played the daughter of Diana Rigg, whose daughter she is in real life). Lance also recovers from his divorce from his first wife, meets another woman who becomes his girlfriend, and meets his daughter from an earlier fling. |
