Review - 12 Monkeys
Hard to follow, but it dragged me in and kept my interest. Still, it's not really my kind of movie, especially since the ending was ambiguous.

| Description: | In the future, after a virus in 1996 wiped out most of mankind, the survivors live underground. James Cole (Bruce Willis), a convict, is sent back in time to gather information in hopes that an antidote that will enable humanity to return to the surface. On several trips, he's sent to the wrong year. In one of them, he goes to 1990 and is put in an insane asylum where me meets Jeffrey Goines (Brad Pitt), whose father runs a biochemical lab. He also meets psychiatrist Kathryn Railly (Madeleine Stowe), who tries to help him. On another trip back, he kidnaps her to convince her that that the virus is coming. She doesn't believe him at first, but when he proves he knows things about the future, she realizes he's telling the truth. The trips back and forth in time are very disorienting and James has trouble figuring things out. He things Jeffrey and his army of 12 are planning to release the virus, but it turns out their plot was just to release the animals in the Philadelphia zoo. By the time the figure out that it's a scientist from Jeffrey's father's lab, they can't stop him. But James makes a phone call that alerts the people in the future who sent him. He can't stop the plot, but in the final scene, a scientist from the future is seen getting a sample of the virus from the bad guy, so James completed his mission. |
