| Description: | Set during WWII. Olivia (Keri Russell) is studying to be an archaeologist when her mother gets sick. Her father makes her quit college to care for the dying woman. Olivia gets lonely and has a fling with a pilot. When she discovers she's pregnant, her strict father forces her to marry a farmer in bleak and lonely southeastern Colorado. Ray (Skeet Ulrich) is a shy man who instantly falls in love with his new bride and is willing to do anything to make her happy. but Olivia still has hopes that her pilot will come after her. She befriends to Japanese girls from California who live in a nearby relocation camp. Her sister visits and talks Olivia into moving to Denver with her, now that the baby has a name. It comes to a head when Olivia finally hears from the pilot — he wants nothing to do with her or the baby. She figures it's best to leave, but Ray professes his love, and she decides to stay. One of the Japanese girls tries to help a German POW escape, but Olivia manages to keep the girl out of trouble and get the POW caught by the authorities. When the baby comes, Ray loves it, and he and Olivia finally connect. |
