Review - Last Gangster, The
Not terrible. Not a movie I'd want to watch twice, though.

| Description: | Gang leader Joe Krozac (Edward G. Robinson) brings home a wife, Talya (Rose Stradner) from Europe. She knows nothing about his crimes. She's soon pregnant, and Joe is excited about having a son, but before the child is born, he kills three members of a rival gang. The police can't get him for the murders, but they convict him of income-tax evasion and sentence him to 10 years in Alcatraz. Talya has the baby, but then newspaper reporter Paul (James Stewart) tells her about Joe's crimes. She divorces Joe and marries Paul, the son, Junior, thinks Paul is his father. When he's 10, Joe gets out of prison. His old gang, thinking he has money stashed away, beats him. When Joe won't tell them where the money is, they kidnap Junior and threaten to beat him. Joe tells them about the money and he and Junior are let go. They walk a couple days to get to Paul and Talya's home. Joe plans on killing them and taking the kid, but by the time they get there, Junior has won him over. He realizes the boy is better off. Joe leaves and is gunned down by an old rival. |
