Description:Three convicts, Mattie (James Stewart), Lee (Strother Martin), and Johnny (Kurt Russell) are released from the penitentiary in Glory, WV. Mattie is given a check for $25,000 for work he did in the prison, and the three plan on traveling to another town and opening a general store. They don't know that prison warden Doc (George Kennedy) and the local banker Homer, plan on killing the three of them and taking the money. Willis, the conductor on the train, was paid by Doc to set them up, but his conscience bothers him and he warns them. They take off into the woods, chased by Doc. Doc mistakes a mining salesman for one of the convicts and shoots him. Mattie grabs his suitcase, which turns out to be full of dynamite. They run into Cleo (Anne Baxter) who works a floating bordello. Her one working girl is Chanty, a young orphan. When Cleo finds out about the money, she forces the men off her boat and keeps the suitcase, no knowing Mattie has the money in his shirt. Feeling bad for Chanty, the men take her with them, just before Cleo accidentally blows up herself and her boat. They hop a train, but it turns out to be a local and they never make it out of Glory. They hole up in a house, where Doc tracks them down. Mattie still has some dynamite in his shirt, and they manage to kill Doc. They're arrested, but the conductor who helped them on the train goes to the police, the banker is arrested, Mattie gets his money, and the three men and Chanty finally get out of town.

Review - Fool's Parade

Slow moving, and it took me a while to get into it, but in the end, I liked it. I think the "fool's parade" refers to the fact that the entire movie is a chase scene, but the men never leave the immediate area of the town.
