Description:Chico (James Stewart) is a sewer worker in Paris. He claims he's an atheist because he prayed for two things — to be a street cleaner and to have a blond wife — and got neither. He explains this to Father Chevillon, the local priest, who immediately calls in a favor and gets Chico a job as a street cleaner. Then Chico rescues a young prostitute, Diane (Simone Simon) from her madame/sister and from the police. He takes her to his apartment and they soon fall deeply in love. They intend to get married, but WWI intervenes. Before Chico leaves, he and Diane perform a private ceremony and promise to think of each other every morning at 11:00. Chico is injured, and everyone things he is dead — except Diane. She says she can still feel him with her at 11:00. Finally, he comes home, blind, but they're reunited.

Review - Seventh Heaven

An odd little melodrama that works because Stewart is great as Chico, the kind-hearted laborer who won't let anything get him down. And Simon is great as the abused young girl who has faith that there's a better life.
