Description:Conscientious rich girl Virginia (Frances Dee) is sent to a strict finishing school by her mother (Billie Burke). Virginia intends to obey the rules, but the overbearing head mistress (Beulah Bondi), the insistence on keeping appearances over actual character, and her rebellious roommate Pony (Ginger Rogers) soon leads her down a different path. When on an unsanctioned weekend, a guy gets too fresh, Virginia is rescued by hotel waiter Ralph (Bruce Cabot) who is moonlighting to work his way through medical school. The school authorities a Virginia's mother do all they can to keep Virginia from marrying someone they consider beneath her, but she and Ralph manage to spend Christmas together. Soon, Virginia is pregnant. The head mistress intercepts Ralph's letters, and Virginia feels alone. Pony calls Ralph and tells him what's going on. He rushes to the school just as the harping of the women have almost driven Virginia to suicide. Ralph tells the old ladies the truth about themselves and announces that he and Virginia are getting married that day. Virginia's father shows up and, unlike her mother, is understanding and shakes Ralph's hand.

Review - Finishing School

Interesting to watch. Virginia is seen as the victim, and the school certainly operates as the villain, but that doesn't excuse her getting pregnant. Rogers is good as the girl who knows exactly how far she can go before she's gone too far.
