Description:Boston saloon dancer Vivian (Jan Sterling) discovers that she's pregnant. She's the mistress of James Harkley, but he has no intention of taking responsibility. Vivian decides to go to Cape Cod to confront him. To get there, she picks up Henry Shanway who is in the bar, drunk, because he's depressed that his wife miscarried. Henry is too drunk to understand what's going on, and by the time he sobers up, they're in Cape Cod. When he protests, Vivian manages to get him out of the car, then takes off. She meets Harkley. He shoots her and dumps Henry's car in a pond. Month's later, Vivian's skeleton is found on the beach. Detective Peter Moralas (Ricardo Montalban) works with forensic scientist McAdoo (Bruce Bennett) to figure out that the body is Vivian and that she was shot. Harkley is a suspect because his name is found in Vivian's purse, but a weapon is needed to complete the picture. Meanwhile, Henry is arrested for the murder. His wife Grace (Sally Forrest) maintains his innocence. Things get complicated because Vivian's landlady, Mrs. Smerrling (Elsa Lanchester) figured things out and is blackmailing Harkley. She manages to get hold of the murder weapon and checks it at the train station. After Harkley murders her too, Moralas finds the claim check and goes to the station in time to catch Harkley.

Review - Mystery Street

Good police procedural with some interesting early forensic investigation thrown in. I'm not a huge fan of Mantalban, but he was OK here, although his character seemed a bit dense at times. Bennett was good as the scientist. Lanchester player her loony role and did it well.
