| Description: | Released in the United States as Sabotage Agent, which is a boring title, but The Adventures of Tartu, sounds like a cartoon about a dog. British captain Terence Stevenson (Robert Donat), who grew up in Czechoslovakia, is sent into Nazi Europe to discover the location of a German gas factory and learn the formula. He poses as a Rumanian Nazi and gets a job at an arms plant. He soon discovers that Paula (Glynis Johns), the daughter of his innkeeper, works with the underground, but before she can help him make contact, she is found out and killed by the Nazis. Stevenson is transferred to the gas factory. Because of Paula's death, the underground thinks that he's working with the Nazis, and Paula's friend Maruschuka (Valerie Hobson) vows to get revenge. She pretends to be a collaborator to gain info, and she tells her Nazi "boyfriend" that Stevenson is a spy. When the boyfriend checks his credentials, Maruschuka realizes Stevenson is really a good guy after all. She kills the Nazi and warns Stevenson. He manages to blow up the gas plant and escape with Maruschuka in a stolen German plane. |
