| Description: | Spinster Amelia, sister of Judge Hooker, has her sights set on marrying bachelor Throckmorton P. Gildersleeve (Harold Peary), but he's not interested. She gets the judge to inform Gildersleeve that he has two weeks to find a wife or he'll no longer be guardian of his nice Marjorie and nephew LeRoy. The kids don't want to leave Gildersleeve's house, and the don't want Amelia around either. They decide that if Gildersleeve is a bigger man in town than the judge, everything will be OK. So they make a huge deal about the Great Gildersleeve, with pamphlets and parades. The governor comes through town and asks LeRoy what all the fuss is about. LeRoy, noticing the governor is sick, asks him to come to his house for a rest. The judge gets work that the governor is there, but doesn't believe it's really him. He throws the governor a party and plays a bunch of practical jokes on him. That's pretty much where the movie ends, although it's clear that Amelia has set her sights on somebody else. |
