Description:Tyler Flagg (Walter Pidgeon) is a big-time defense lawyer who spends more time away from home than he or his wife Elizabeth (Virginia Bruce) would like. When his latest client develops a thing for Tyler and pursues him on a business trip, Elizabeth thinks he's cheating on her. This makes her feel free to have a friendship with Michael McLain (Lee Bowman), an interesting man she just met. Tyler determines to spend time with Elizabeth, so he books a cruise to Europe. Michael informs Elizabeth that he intends to be on the same boat. She confronts him, and he produces some notes (rather innocuous, but with her name on them) and threatens that he'll show them to his wife Eva (Ann Dvorak) who will file for divorce and name Elizabeth as correspondent. He wants money for them and keeps upping the amount. Elizabeth grabs a gun that Eva bought and points it at Michael to get the notes. He slugs her, and in the confusion, she fires a shot and he falls. She grabs the notes and runs. Eva is charged with murdering her husband. When Elizabeth finds out, she realizes she can't let the other woman take the blame and get the chair. She goes to the trial, and when it appears that Eva is about to be convicted, she jumps up and confesses. The Judge has her take the chair and Tyler questions her. It soon becomes evident that Elizabeth doesn't know all the fact — but she must be telling the truth about what she does know because she confessed to murder. Tyler has Eva take the stand again and gets her to admit that she killed Michael. He was on his feet when she got there and began shoving her around, so she picked up the gun and shot him. Tyler gets Eva acquitted on a self-defense plea. Elizabeth thinks Tyler will be through with her, but he comes home and forgives her.

Review - Stronger Than Desire

Good movie, good cast, good acting. This was code-time, so it was hard to know whether Tyler had a fling with the client that was pursuing him and how far Elizabeth went with Michael. If they didn't both cheat, the whole movie was much ado about nothing. It was also a hard to understand why a woman like Elizabeth would go for Michael, even if she did think her husband was having a fling.
