| Description: | Harry Patterson (Clark Gable) is a wild, spontaneous bosun in the merchant marines with a girl in every port. When his ship docks in San Francisco, his pall Mudgin is struggling with his conscience and goes into a library to seek answers. Harry goes with him and meets serious, straight-laced Emily (Greer Garson). The two lock horns immediately, but Emily's friend Helen (Joan Blondell) gets a kick out of Harry and invites him along. Emily gets angrier and angrier at Harry's antics — and falls for him. On impulse, the two of them take off for Reno and get married. But when they get back to San Francisco and Emily realizes Harry doesn't intend to change anything about his lifestyle, she decides to divorce him. Harry takes off on another cruise, but can't forget Emily. He gets back just as she's about to have a baby he didn't know about. The baby struggles to breath, and Harry begins to take life seriously. He and Emily (it's hinted) get back together. |
