Description:Ralph Johnson hired detective Stuart Bailey (Franchot Tone) to find out why someone is sending blackmail notes about Jane, his wife. Tone does the usual hard-boiled detective stuff — get beat up, beat some people up. be witty and clever, kiss the girls. In the end, it turns out Johnson wrote the notes and killed his wife (although I'm not sure we ever learn why). But the case was made more difficult because Jane was using the identity of another woman, Ligia, who also wanted to keep her past hidden from her husband. Stuart was helped by Ligia's sister, Norma (Janet Blair) who ends the movie in Stuart's arms, and by his ever-resourceful secretary Hazel (Glenda Farrell). There were a lot more characters and subplots, but that's confusing enough.

Review - I Love Trouble

There were some good things about this movie — the plot was kinda fun, and Farrell had a good time playing Hazel. But there were two huge problems. 1) Tone was far to light-weight to be believable as a tough detective. 2) Some of the actresses said their lines like they were robots who couldn't read cue cards. All that, and it was far to confusing to follow, even after it was explained.
