Description:On Christmas Eve, 1914, German, French, and British soldiers fraternized with each other in unofficial cease-fires. This movie is a dramatization of that event. A German opera singer, Nikolaus who is serving in the front lines. hears Scottish bagpipers playing Christmas carols in their trench and begins singing along in German. He then climbs up out of the trench and continues singing. Scottish and French soldiers climb out to hear them. The three lieutenants meet and agree to a cease fire. The troops mingle, exchange food and drink. A Scottish priest conducts a mass. On Christmas morning they agree to continue the cease-fire to bury all the dead between the lines. Nikolaus's girlfriend, singer Anna (Diane Kruger), who visited the front to sing to the troops, convinces Nikolaus to surrender to the French so they can be together and survive the war. When the commanders of the various armies find out what happened, they are angry and punish the troops by splitting them up or sending them to more dangerous fronts.

Review - Joyeux Noel

Compelling. It didn't need Diane Kruger's character, and she just made it all feel somewhat implausible, but otherwise good.
