Review - Eagle and the Hawk, The
Not overly subtle, but moving and deep for a 1930's picture.

| Description: | During WWI, three Americans join the RAF in France. Young (Fredric March) is an ace pilot who is bothered by the deaths, both of his own men and of the enemy. He is at outs with spotter/gunner Crocker (Cary Grant), who is more pragmatic in his view of war. Young goes to London on leave and has a fling with a woman (Carole Lombard), but any relaxation he gets is ruined when he finds out fellow-pilot Richards (Jack Oakie) is killed when up with Crocker. Young refuses to fly with Crocker any more and takes up a new kid who gets killed on his first mission by a German ace. He goes after the ace and downs him. When he gets back to base, he is heralded as a hero, but he can't take it anymore. He shoots himself. When Crocker finds his body, he hides Young's death from everyone, then takes his body up in a plane and makes it look like Young died a hero in combat. |
