| Description: | Lt. Pinkerton (Cary Grant) n American naval officer visits a geisha house in Japan and sees Cho-Cho (Sylvia Sidney), daughter of a Samurai who just arrived that day. He's told that, in Japan, it's OK to marry geishas because, when he leaves, it will be considered divorce and she can marry someone else. They get married and spend several months together. When Pinkerton leaves, Cho-Cho determines to wait for him. She has a son, and waits three years. Meanwhile, Pinkerton has gotten married in the states. When he returns to Japan, he finds out Cho-Cho has waiting instead of marrying again. He goes to see her and tells her he's not coming back. She doesn't tell him about his son. When he leaves, she sends her son to her family to raise, then kills herself. |
