Description:Popular cartoonist Stanley Ford (Jack Lemmon) is a confirmed bachelor. He stages the scenes in his action/adventure strip and has his butler Charles (Terry-Thomas) photograph them. At a party, he gets drunk and impulsively marries the girl in the cake (Virna Lisi). The next morning, he already regrets it, but she refuses to divorce him. She's a good cook and affectionate, but a slop who gets in the way of his comfortable lifestyle. In time, the mishaps and chaos she creates in their marriage make their way into his comic strip. Eventually, he imagines what life would be like without her and plans a murder and acts it out — complete with a dummy. When his wife sees the strips detailing her murder, she disappears. The authorities think that he really killed her and arrest him. At the trial, things are going poorly for him, so he decides to take his own case and force his lawyer to be his witness. He gets his lawyer to admit that his wife (Claire Trevor) dominates him and that he would, if given the chance, make her disappear. The jury acquits Stanley on the basis of justifiable homicide. But he realizes he really misses and loves his wife, and when she returns, he's very happy.

Review - How to Murder Your Wife

Played as slapstick. There was a lot of noise and silliness, but I don't suppose it could have been done any other way.
