When they're caught together, Steve talks his way out of it by offering to be the inside man on a robbery of the armored car he drives. He plans on meeting up with Anna after the robbery and running away with her, but the robbery goes south and Steve and Slim shoot and injure each other. Steve is in the hospital when one of Slim's men comes for him. Slim knows Steve will bribe the guy and have his take him to where Anna is hiding, which is what he does. Review - Criss Cross

Nobody to root for in this one. An issue with movies like this during the code era is that bad guys can never get away with their crimes, so you know pretty much how it's going to end, which eliminates the suspense and gives away the plot.
