Description:Jay Grobart (Burt Reynolds) is just out of prison for killing the man who raped his Indian wife, Cat Dancing. (We find out later that, in his rage, he killed her too.) Now he's the leader of a gang of train robbers, along with Dawes (Jack Warden), Billy (Bo Hopkins), and Charlie, and Indian. The robbery goes off fine, but when they jump off the train, they find Catherine (Sarah Miles), a refined woman who is running away from her overbearing husband Willard (George Hamilton). She was hoping to catch the train, but ends up getting dragged off by Billy, who intends to rape her. Jay stops it, and the five head off, chased by Wells Fargo detective Lapchance (Lee J. Cobb) and a posse, including Willard. The gang has a falling out. Harvey beats Billy, who soon dies. Then renegade Indians kill Charlie and grab Catherine. Jay stops them. Dawes runs off. Jay and Catherine move on together and fall in love. Dawes catches up with them and attacks Catherine, then attempts to kill Jay but is killed himself. Jay finds the Shoshone tribe where his children have been adopted, but realizes they're better off where they are. He leaves Catherine there and takes off on his own, but she follows. They're together when Lapchance and Willard find them. Willard shoots Jay and is killed by Catherine. Lapchance has the money that was robbed from the train, so he lets Jay and Catherine go. Jay is injured, but we're led to believe he lives.

Review - Man Who Loved Cat Dancing, The

The movie made you want to like Burt Reynold's character, but he began as a bank robber and then was revealed to have killed his wife after she'd been raped. So no, I could root for him, and that ruined the movie.
