Description:Right after the war, paratrooper Rip Murdock (Humphrey Bogart) and his buddy Johnny Drake are called to Washington to receive medals. When Johnny finds out the ceremony will be covered by the press, he jumps off the train. Rip gets off to find out why. He soon discovers Johnny's body in the morgue, victim of an accident. He follows clues to a nightclub owned by Martinelli, where he meets Johnny's girl, Coral (Lizabeth Scott). Several twists and turns follow — Rip is framed for murdering a bartender, he's drugged and beaten, he falls for Coral and also suspects her when he finds out Johnny was arrested for killing Coral's husband. He figures out that it was Coral who killed her husband and then let Johnny take the rap. Martinelli has the gun with Coral's fingerprints on it. Rip goes to get the gun, but Martinelli convinces him that Coral has been betraying him all along. Rip gets the gun and intends to take Coral to the police, but she shoots him. He crashes the car, but recovers from the injuries. Coral is killed.

Review - Dead Reckoning

Typical overly complicated detective-type story. Bogart was good as Rip, and most of the other characters played their parts well. My biggest issue was with casting Lizabeth Scott as the femme fatale. I refuse to believe any guy would go crazy over her — she looks like a man in a wig.
