The Tricolored Heron was stalking through shallow water in a pool about 100 yards off the road near a large mixed flock of waders.  It was in an area where the grass was a few inches tall.  On two occasions, I saw it raise its wings into a canopy over its back and run for a few steps through the water while looking down.
