This place is located in Des Plaines, but I’d never been there or knew it existed. Then, not long ago, I happened upon it on the Internet and read that the food was awesome.
My daughter and I drove in on a rainy afternoon, deliberately arriving after lunchtime to avoid the lines that often extend down the block.
There wasn’t much to it.
The inside was tiny — 10 stools along the edge of a tiny dining/ordering area — and full. (Several other people entered just after I took this photo.)
We ordered a hot dog, a cheddar burger and three-layer fries (Merkts’ Cheddar Cheese, sour cream and real bacon) and split them all between us.
The food was awesome — every bit of it. I’d say it was even worth the two-hour round trip.
