Chicago — Eight Days Before Christmas

We make the trip downtown every winter, go to the same places, buy the same things — that’s how traditions work. But I’ve gotten bored taking the same photos, so this year I looked for different camera angles and less typical subjects. I would have taken more, but the city was more crowded than I’ve ever experienced it — and not just Daley Center Plaza and the sidewalk in front of Macy’s. It was crowded everywhere. The Christkindlmarket was the worst (third photo from the bottom). Pushing through that crowd has got to be the closest an adult can get to the experience of being born. When I finally broke through on the other side I bent over and took several deep breaths. But we had fun anyway and plan on doing it again next year — just not on a Saturday evening.
