Alum Cove

On the Wednesday after Christmas, I went in search of adventure with my brothers-in-law, my nephew, and my niece.

Our first stop was at Alum Cove, a small recreation area within Ozark National Forest. The primary feature is a natural bridge — 20 feet wide and 120 feet long.

There was a small waterfall pouring into the space between the cliff and the bridge. For some reason, perhaps because it was about 35 degrees that early in the morning, I couldn’t get any volunteers to sit in the chair.

On the other side of the valley there were several openings in the cliffs known as “goat houses” because feral goats used to hang out there.

Is it just my imagination, or does this opening in the cliffs look like a guy about to kiss a bear?
