How to spot a deer

White-tailed Deer are very skittish animals and will always spot you before you spot them. The only way to observe them is to walk slowly, make no noise and attempt to blend in with the environment.

Once you do spot a deer, freeze. If you make the slightest movement, they will turn and disappear.

While normally placid, deer have sharp hooves and can deliver a nasty kick. Whatever you do, don’t attempt to touch one.

Only after months, and sometimes years, of patient waiting will deer become acclimated to your presence and allow close approach.

If you follow these directions very closely, you may be one of the lucky few who have been allowed to run with the herd.
