A few miles north of Little Bohemia, we drove through the exciting town of Mercer, Wisconsin, “The Loon Capital of the World.” We stopped to look at Claire d’Loon, the world’s third largest loon statue. It used to be the world’s largest talking (as in “making loon noises”) loon statue, but the speaker is currently broken — perhaps because the statue has been shot at several times. Claire is 27 years old and stands 16 feet tall.
There’s only so much to do around a giant loon, so although we enjoyed our experience thoroughly, we didn’t stay long.
