From my sister’s diary:
Today we started out early and went to Chicago. First Dad met a friend at some fishing tackle place in town and then we ate lunch at Moody’s Sweet Shop. Later we saw the Cubs play the Phillies. Cubs won 2-1. Then we went to Evanston.
Some interesting stuff.
- The Cubs right fielder was Lou Brock
- The Cubs second baseman was Ken Hubbs. He came up late in 1961, won the Rookie of the Year award in 1962 and hit .235 in 1963. He died in a plane crash on February 13, 1964, less than six months after this game.
- Both pitchers threw complete games. When was the last time you saw that happen?
