From my sister’s diary:
Today we started out early and went to Chicago. First Dad met John Balma at some fishing tackle place in town and then we ate lunch at Moody’s Sweet Shop. Later we saw the Cubs play the Phillies. Cubs won 2-1. Then we went to Evanston.
Some interesting stuff.
- The Cubs right fielder was Lou Brock
- The Cubs second baseman was Ken Hubbs. He came up late in 1961, won the Rookie of the Year award in 1962 and hit .235 in 1963. He died in a plane crash on February 13, 1964, less than six months after this game.
- Both pitchers threw complete games. When was the last time you saw that happen?
