Hoosier Hill, in east-central Indiana, is the state’s highest natural point. It’s important to include the “natural” qualifier because a landfill in the next county is, or soon will be, higher. Coming from the north, there is no sense of being high. The surrounding farmland is almost flat. The area is part of a plateau. Only later, as we drove south down a series of rolling ridges did we get any sense that we had been “up.”
The high point is on private land, but the owner generously allows visitors free access. There is a short gravel drive off a country road and then this path.
It had just stopped raining, and the afternoon was cool and windy. We stood and enjoyed the lovely view for perhaps five minutes.
