June 19, 1988 — 8:20 am

Shiloh National Military Park, Tennessee

We spent the night in Corinth, Mississippi, then headed up to Shiloh in the morning to tour the battlefield. As we drove into the park along the entrance road, three Gray Foxes ran across the road and field in front of us. We first saw two of them as they ran across about 40 yards ahead of the car. I stopped, and they stopped, right at the edge of the woods. They looked at us for a moment, then disappeared into the trees. Just as I started up again, another one crossed in front of us and entered the woods.
