I spent four days in Elkhart, Indiana attending a seminar. It was a last minute assignment, so I didn’t have much time to plan, and I didn’t have a lot of free time anyway.
I did have a couple hours to kill the afternoon I arrived, and the National Recreational Vehicle Hall of Fame and Museum seemed amusing.
The hall of fame part wasn’t — rows and rows of photos of people in the industry, elected by people in the industry. But the museum part was interesting. About 60 RVs of various sorts were arranged in a large room. I was able to go inside many of them. And I had the entire collection to myself for most of the time I was there.
I didn’t make much of an effort to keep track of which RVs were which and which interior photos went with which exterior photos, so here, in a jumble, with a few scattered comments, is what I saw.
The vehicle on the left in the photo above is the first ever registered RV, built in 1913, I believe. Here’s another photo of it.

One of my favorites. I think I matched the exterior and interior on this one.
I think the one on the left was built for Mae West.
Some of them weren’t all that attractive.
I appreciated the old ones with the amazing woodwork.
Note the easy chair driver’s seat on this one.
