Bird #154 — Northern Waterthrush

seiurus (from seio, to shake, and oura, tail) noveboracensis (of New York)

Thursday, May 15, 1980 — 5:00 pm

Deerfield, Illinois

The woods on campus at this time were a bit muddy, and standing puddles of water were scattered here and there among the trees.  Just inside the tree-line near the baseball diamond was a particularly large puddle.  I noticed two Waterthrushes foraging in and along the edge of the water.  They were walking on the ground and on logs and sticks.  I got to within five feet on a few occasions.
