Tybee Island, Georgia

In October, 2026, the Willet was split into two species — this bird and the Prairie Willet. My only definite sighting of the Saltmarsh Willet was on our family vacation to Georgia. I got up early one morning and walked along the Atlantic Ocean beach. I saw several lifers, and my notes on them include a sighting of five Willets feeding above the waterline. They flew up the beach as I approached. I don’t remember anything about them, but from location and date, they can be identified as Saltmarsh Willets. I may have seen others during my birding trip to Florida in Marsh, 2025, but I don’t know.
