Notes:From the exotic world of the South Pacific come these stories of men and women caught up in World War II. It is the story of the young Marine who falls madly in love with a beautiful Tonkinese girl; of Nurse Nellie and her French planter; but mostly it is the story of soldiers, sailors and nurses playing at war and waiting for love in a tropic paradise.

COMMENTS — In 1948, Michener won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for Tales of the South Pacific. The musical South Pacific was based on this book, although at no time do the pages change color.

Review - Tales of the South Pacific

Good, but dry in places. It paints a very realistic-sounding picture of what life must have been like during the war — heat, insects, fungus, loneliness, boredom, love affairs and waiting. And then suddenly danger and death.
