Notes:Thrush Green takes the reader into the life and world of a fictional Cotswold village. The characters are charming, eccentric or curmudgeonly in their turn, but always diverting and entertaining. Miss Read's fictional world is not without trials and tribulations, but like life itself, inevitably goes on its way and all comes out right in the end.

COMMENTS — Dora Jessie Shafe was born in 1913. As a child she holidayed near Walton-on-Sea where her grandfather had a plot of land. In 1940 she married Douglas Edward John Saint and they had one daughter Jill. As Miss Read, Dora wrote more than forty novels, especially about Fairacre and Thrush Green, and in 1996 finished her writing career with A Peaceful Retirement. Caution: Make sure you get the right book. Many of the sequels include the words “Thrush Green,” such as Son of Thrush Green, The Bride of Thrush Green and Thrush Green Rides Again. You just want plain, old Thrush Green.

Review - Thrush Green

A happy book about happy people. The plot reads like an old kid's novel. But at the same time, it's comfortable and cozy. I don't think I could take a steady diet of Miss Read, but I enjoyed this book.
