Review - A Short Life of Christ

This was an old Moody text book of mine that has managed to stay with me through all my moves. I had highlighted at least half of it and scribbled in it here and there.

For the most part, I thought it was a good book. I could have used a bit less analysis of incorrect views and a bit more detail on the events of Christ’s life.

The only disagreement I had was with his take on the temptation. He said that Christ could have sinned, but didn’t. He says that if Christ couldn’t have failed, then we can get no comfort from the fact that He was tempted like we are. I disagree. I say that guaranteed success doesn’t make a test any less legitimate and in fact, encourages me that I can resist temptation through the power of Christ. Also, if Christ could sin, that would negate His deity, but He could still be 100% man and not be able to sin — someday in my glorified body I will be 100% man and unable to sin myself.

It was a good refresher course and got me thinking about things I probably haven’t thought of since Moody. I’d still like to find a biography that covered the cultural and historic setting more.
