Notes:Charles Edgemont, a second lieutenant in the British Navy, suddenly finds himself in command of HMS Argonaut when the captain and first are killed in battle. The Argonaut is facing several larger Spanish ships, and when the smoke clears, Charles finds himself a hero and a rich man, having captured three ships of the line. He returns to England and home where he buys and estate and falls in love with Penny Brown, a Quaker girl who has issues with his career. He's given command of the Louisa, on patrol off the Spanish coast. He has a series of conflicts with a larger Spanish frigate before finally managing to capture her. Penny agrees to marry him.

Review - Sails on the Horizon

I think Charles Edgemont was a bit bolder and brasher than a rookie captain could get away with, but otherwise, the plot and characters were pretty good. It wasn't great literature, but it was entertaining enough.
