Notes:Percival Keene was born as the result of a dalliance between his mother, the daughter of a steward, and Captain Delmar, heir to a title. His mother married a marine named Keene to avoid the shame. When Percival discovers who his real father is, his only goal in life is to make him proud enough to claim Percival as his son. He joins the navy as a midshipman under Delmar and rises through the ranks due to his brave exploits. He becomes a captain, but Delmar dies young — and leaves everything, including his name, to Percival.

Review - Percival Keene

A bit choppy and rushed feeling compared to the novels of O'Brian or Forrester, but when you consider it was written in 1842, it actualy fits the genre well. Percival was capable of being a jerk, but he learned from his mistakes and was easy to root for. The action sequences were fun, and there was humor (albeit 1842 humor) throughout.
