Notes:The Communists have taken over a Mexican state and killed all the priests except one. He is on the run, forced to disguise himself and flee from village to village. He's torn between his duty and his guilt — he drinks and has an illegitimate daughter. He meets up with a half-breed who is determined to turn him in for the reward. The priest escapes, but the half-breed follows him everywhere and eventually leads him to arrest by telling the priest about a dying man who needs the last rites. The priest knows it's the end, but goes anyway because he has at last found peace with himself and God. He is shot at dawn.

Review - Power and the Glory, The

Certainly not a book I would have ever chosen on my own, but it was very well written and the characters of the priest and the people he met were very well drawn.
