Reviews for The Fixer
Review - Fixer, The
I felt for Yakov and wanted to know what happened to him, so I kept reading. But that wasn't the point of the book, so I was disappointed.

| Notes: | Yakov Box is a non-practicing Jewish handyman (fixer) in Tsarist Russia. He travels to Kiev to improve his life. He helps a Russian who gives him a job as foreman in his brick factory. The factory is in an area banned to Jews, but Yakov hides his identity. When a Russian boy is found murdered, Yakov's nationality is discovered and he's accused. The investigators know he's innocent but hope to get him to confess so they can attack all Jews. Yakov protests his innocence for three long years of abuse in prison and becomes, somehow, the representative of his race in the country. When the story ends, he's on his way to his trial, finally, but we never find out his fate. |
