Notes:Tournier discusses the neurosis he saw in many patience due to the inner anxiety created by trying to live without the spiritual. He compares this to history and how, through science and politics, the spiritual has been removed from the conversation. His solution is the church, not in the sense of bringing on the kingdom, but in the sense of bringing the spiritual back into the discussion.

Review - Whole Person in a Broken World, The

An interesting read with a lot of very good points. It was written in 1947 and often points to Nazi Germany and Communist Russia for it's examples. That dates it, as does his opinion, at the end, that he's seeing the spiritual brought back into public discussion which gave him reason for optimism. But considering that Christianity is now almost completely gone from Europe and that America isn't far behind, his optimism was misguided. Still, I think he makes a valid point in saying that we were created to be spiritual beings and the result of trying to live apart from that is why many people, and society, are sick.
