Review - Roundabout to Canterbury
If only the Brooks hadn't been so impressed with himself as a writer, this would have been a fascinating book. While he describes the history of the places he visits, his own visit in 1926 is now history too. At times, his humor adds considerably. But throughout, in paragraphs and a few chapters, he gets caught up in florid prose, trying to paint pictures with his words that only distracts.
