Review - Voyage of the Liberdade
A fun voyage, but Slocum's writing style was a bit odd and overdone—so much so that, in places, it was a hard read.

| Notes: | Subtitle: A Journey from Brazil to America in a Hand-built Boat Slocum was on a trading voyage to South America, with his wife and two sons along. After weather the smallpox and an attempted mutiny, they lost their ship in a storm. Slocum had very little money. He built a small sailing craft by hand. It was launched on the day that Brazil freed its slaves, so he named it Liberdade. The voyage home had some challenges, but the boat held up and all made it back to the States safely. The trip had become famous, and Liberdade was donated to the Smithsonian Institute. |
