A series of essays about different birds and their characteristics: Turkey Vultures' sense of smell, Snowy Owls' nomadic wandering, bowerbirds' nest building, etc. With each, Strycker equates the characteristic with similar human characteristics and attempts to prove an evolutionary connection.

Review - The Thing with Feathers

The parts about the birds themselves were interesting. The evolution stuff was ludicrous. For example, he claimed that bowerbirds display design and art when they build nests, while the whole time insisting that the birds themselves are the products of mere chance. There are no similarities between birds and humans that can't simply be explained by a common designer—God.
