Notes:Redgauntlet is a Scottish Jacobite who attempts to raise another army to fight for the Pretender about 20 years after the '45. He even gets the Catholic king to come back to England, but the scheme falls apart when the Jacobites refuse to fight for the Pretender because he dragged his mistress along with him from France. The Pretender refuses to give up his mistress on principle. And while all the arguing was going on, an English army from King George arrives and tells them all, the Pretender included, that they can go home in peace as long as they go home immediately. The story is told from the point of view of Darsie Latimer, Redgauntlet's nephew, and his friend Alan Fairford, a lawyer.

Review - Redgauntlet

Rather dull. I had a hard time staying interested primarily because I didn't care for any of the characters. Darsie and Alan just sort of wandered around without direction and let things happen to them. Redgauntlet was a jerk. The story amounted to nothing—a plot that fizzled. It just wasn't a great event to wrap a story around.
