Notes:Lucia Lucas reigned as the leader of society in the small English town of Riseholme. Her reign was somewhat disturbed when Mrs. Quantock acquired a yoga guru (who turned out to be a cook and a thief) and then a spiritualist (who was soon arrested for fraud). But Lucia's supremacy was toppled when Olga Bracely, a famous opera singer, moved into town. Without intending to, Olga repeatedly pointed out the chinks in the queen's armor, and soon Lucia was an outcast. That is, until Olga herself, feeling sorry for her unintentional exposure of Lucia, worked behind the scenes to restore the queen to her rightful place.

Review - Queen Lucia

The main character was so very annoying that I didn't care what happened to her. Why Benson chose to have her and her friends talk to each other in baby talk, I have no idea. The plot, as satire on small-town England, was mildly amusing, but overall I just wanted to finish and be done with it.
