Detective Donald Lam, just back from the war, resumes his detective business with Bertha Cool. They take a case in which a woman wants them to find dirt on the wife of the man she loves. It turns out the wife married him for his money, but along the way there's murder and several blackmailed people and Lam has to figure out which of the blackmailed people killed the blackmailer. Along the way he has a fling with a woman who he trusts, even though she looks like the prime suspect.

Review - Give 'Em the Ax

The Bertha Cool character just said stupid things and was unappealing. The plot was complicated and there were too many characters for a story that wasn't compelling enough to give me a reason to keep track.
