Review - Bent's Fort
Well written and often interesting, but too detailed, with too many names and not enough maps.

| Notes: | A history of the settlement of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, concentrating on the lives of Charles and William Bent, their trading post—Bent's Fort—their families, their trade, their association with various Indian tribes, and the increased tension and battles between settlers and Indians. Charles was slaughtered in Taos by Mexicans and Indians during the Mexican War. William died some years after the Civil War, having abandoned the original fort and having built a second, less successful, one that became Fort Lyon. |
