Notes:The author collected baseball cards as a child, then returned to the hobby as an adult and decided to buy every Jose Canseco card he could. he even spent an afternoon at Canseco's house getting things signed. By this time, the hobby had expanded so that dozens of new cards, many of them unique, were coming out constantly. He started a blog, bought up huge collections, and became well-known for his obsession. He's a Christian who is open about his faith, and he says that God led him to sell his collection. He sold most of it (and then bought some of it back) and now only collects cards he really likes—and vintage toys and comic books.

Review - Confessions of a Baseball Card Addict

He seems like a nice guy, but this book is for someone much more into the hobby than I am. Shortly after I quit collecting, card companies began making a ridiculously huge variety of cards that were created to be rarities, and apparently there are people who value this stuff. When I was a kid, there was a set of cards and you bought packs at the store and tried to get as many as you could. You didn't have to pay hundreds and even thousands of dollars to get a card that was created unique to make it valuable. I think it ruined the hobby. The book's detailed description of dealing for cards got very dry.
