A travelogue of a voyage the author made from Traverse City, Michigan, through Lakes Michigan, Huron, Erie, and Ontario, then down the Erie Canal and Hudson River to the Atlantic and up to Maine. The trip was made on the Malabar, a two masted sailing schooner. Along the way he discusses the weather, wildlife, navigation, pollution, and some of the history of the lakes. He also tells of other side trips he took on Lake Superior and Michigan.

Review - Living Great Lakes, The

Most of the lake lore was interesting. The travelogue of the voyage wasn't bad. He ended with a screed on environmentalism that covered ground already dealt with and so sounded preachy, and it could have been better with more lore and history. But I enjoyed it for the most part.
